Versatile knot for hooks, swivels, and joining two lines

When to use it

A great all-purpose knot that works in wind and low light on the pier. Easy to tie even with cold, wet hands.

Step by step

Wet the knot before the final pull. Friction from a dry cinch is what breaks most line.

Thread the line through the hook eye and pull about 8 inches through.
Bring the tag end back toward the hook eye to form a loop alongside the standing line.
Wrap the tag end around both lines and through the loop 5 to 6 times.
Moisten and pull the tag end to tighten the wraps.
Slide the knot down to the hook eye by pulling the standing line.
Trim the tag end.

For a loop knot version, do not slide the knot all the way to the eye.
Double the Uni Knot (Uni-to-Uni) to join two lines of different diameters.
Works well even with wet or cold hands, making it ideal for early morning pier fishing.
