When to use it
Best for circle hooks and live bait fishing on the pier. Ensures the hook sets in the corner of the fish's mouth.
Step by step
Tying the snell knot
Wet the knot before the final pull. Friction from a dry cinch is what breaks most line.
Thread the line through the hook eye and pull about 10 inches through.
Form a loop alongside the hook shank with the tag end.
Wrap the tag end around the hook shank and the standing line 7 to 8 times, working toward the hook bend.
Hold the wraps in place and pull the standing line to tighten.
Make sure the line exits from the top of the hook eye.
Trim the tag end.
Tips
- The line must exit from the top (point side) of the hook eye for proper hook sets.
- Essential for circle hooks used in live bait fishing for Red Drum and Flounder.
- Keep your wraps neat and tight against the shank for maximum strength.
