When to use it
Your go-to knot for attaching mono or fluoro to a hook eye. Works great for bottom rigs and float setups on the pier.
Step by step
Tying the improved clinch knot
Wet the knot before the final pull. Friction from a dry cinch is what breaks most line.
Thread 6 inches of line through the hook eye.
Wrap the tag end around the standing line 5 to 7 times.
Pass the tag end through the small loop formed just above the hook eye.
Then pass the tag end through the large loop you just created.
Moisten the knot with saliva and pull the standing line to tighten.
Trim the tag end close to the knot.
Tips
- Always wet the knot before tightening to prevent friction damage.
- Use 5 wraps for heavier line (30 lb+), 7 wraps for lighter line.
- Pull slowly and steadily. Jerking can weaken the knot.
