Joining two lines of similar diameter
When to use it
Use when you need to join your main line to a leader of similar thickness. Common for building custom leaders for pier fishing.
Step by step
Tying the blood knot
Wet the knot before the final pull. Friction from a dry cinch is what breaks most line.
Overlap the ends of the two lines by about 6 inches.
Wrap the first tag end around the second line 5 times.
Bring the tag end back and pass it between the two lines at the center.
Wrap the second tag end around the first line 5 times in the opposite direction.
Pass the second tag end through the center opening in the opposite direction of the first.
Moisten and pull both standing lines slowly to tighten.
Trim both tag ends.
Tips
- Both lines should be within 2 lb test of each other for best results.
- If joining lines of very different diameters, use a Uni-to-Uni knot instead.
- This knot slides through rod guides smoothly, making it great for leaders.
